Lamp Lab students win prizes for posters on their research into black soldier flies!

11/20/2024

We are pleased that two of our lab members won at the AGNR Cornerstone Poster Competition!  Entomology Grad Student Helen Craig took home 3rd place in the Food Security category with her poster, “Preliminary assessment of palatability, degradability, and in vitro inclusion optimization of black soldier fly larvae when added as a substitute for soybean meal in dairy cattle.” Check out Helen’s STEAM Salon talk to learn more about her research into insects as food and feed and her efforts to educate UMD on insect ecosystem services. Animal Sciences Undergrad Jenna Eylanbekov was also recognized with a remarkable 2nd place prize in the Sustainable Agriculture category with her poster, “Assessing behavior of dairy cattle to determine palatability in response to feed with black soldier fly larvae as a protein substitute.”  Congratulations, Helen and Jenna!
